Choosing a wooden TV Stand

JF207 Walnut & Piano Balck Glass TV Stand

When choosing a wooden TV stand you will find that there are many pleasing and varied designs on the market.

Wooden TV stands are a great centre piece for any lounge,  bedroom, dining room or living space and can also work fantasticaly well in professional spaces such as receptions, cosy bars, or elegant offices.

Whether you prefer a space-saving corner TV stand, a cabinet style stand, simple shelf and drawer style wooden TV stand or an elaborate design piece, you will find variations to suit your space and design requirements.

There is a huge range of wooden TV stands available in terms of pricing; you will find great quality budget pieces that look superb at a very low price right through up to show-stopping, high-end pieces. A wooden TV stand can be a muted, understated support in a room or a ‘design feature’ centre piece, depending on your requirements

Matching the colour of the wood already featured in your décor to the colour of the wood in a wooden TV stand will not be difficult as there are many colours and shades available, from oaks, beeches and pines to dark wood finishes. If you do not wish your wooden TV stand to have that typical ‘wood’ look, then glossy, reflective or (non-wood) coloured finishes are also available. Brackets to support your flat screen will feature in certain designs, or you may prefer to simply position your self-supporting TV onto your wooden TV stand.

You can choose between options around shelving and drawers or cabinet space in your wooden TV stand. This will ensure that all gaming devices and games, cable-TV receivers, routers and DVD’s can be kept tidy in line with your space. Cable-tidy facilities should also be provided, and you may also prefer a wooden TV stand with casters.

Don’t forget to check that the size and weight of your TV matches up to the size and weight specifications of the wooden TV stand of your choice.

No matter what design you choose, your wooden TV stand will be easy to assemble if assembly is required, and will be a durable piece of furniture that offers you great value for money and an attractive look.

Popular Contemporary Furniture – Glass TV Stands

Among the many popular designs of contemporary furniture, glass TV stands are truly an iconic modern feature. Whether intended for a large centrepiece for the lounge, elegant bedroom furniture or for that tucked away den hide-out, a glass TV stand will bring a further touch of sophistication to any room.

Easy to clean, great for storage and with a wide range of designs and styles, you will find that there is a glass TV stand to suit your needs and space. Whether your extras include satellite boxes, game consoles, routers, speakers or your DVD and game collection, a contemporary glass TV stand will house all your entertainment systems neatly and in style.

In compliment to the handy storage facilities, many glass TV stand designs feature slim-line dimensions to make the absolute most of your available space. You will also often come across examples of glass TV stands with bevelled corners so that you can tuck them into the corner of your room.

You will find that most glass TV stands come in either black or clear glass. All glass will need to meet British Standards in safety and quality so will tend to be toughened or reinforced. If you are looking for chrome to match your décor then examples of glass and chrome designs are common also.

Cable management systems for glass TV stands will ensure that you have quick and easy ways to make sure that all your cabling is kept out of sight. This will typically mean that at the rear of the stand is a back panel shaped to loop away your cabling.

Contemporary glass TV stands are designed to be easy to put together and you should be able to do this job in a matter of minutes even if you are not used to doing basic home DIY. An assembly guide will be provided in the pack and some stand manufacturers even have a telephone helpline in case you get stuck! You shouldn’t need this, however, as it will be a simple job; you can relax about getting your glass TV stand put together quickly and with minimal fuss.

Lastly, in the interest of safety and longevity of your product, always check that the size and weight specifications on the glass TV stand that you wish to purchase correlate with those of your TV. Even though all glass TV stands are toughened, you will still need to adhere to these guidelines.

Tips for Choosing the Best TV Cabinets

TV cabinets can provide you with a practical and attractive way to store and display your home entertainment system.  This will help to keep all your equipment and accessories tidy so that they do not intrude into the room.
If you choose the wrong TV cabinets you could upset the balance of your room.  This could make your living spaces feel awkward and uncomfortable.  To help you make sure you choose the best TV cabinets for your home here are a few useful tips.

    1. Measure Before You Shop

These days it is common for homes to have large flat screen televisions.  Although these are much lighter in weight than older style televisions they can take up a lot of room.  You will need to consider the size of your TV cabinets very carefully.  It is important that you can place your television securely on top of the cabinet.  If your television is too wide for the cabinet it could topple over more easily.

Before you go shopping for TV cabinets make sure you measure the space you have available and also the television carefully.  This will help you choose cabinets that are the right size.

    1. Think about the Room Décor

Each home has its own style.  There are many different designs of TV cabinets available.  This means you should be able to get the right cabinet to suit your room.  If you have a traditional style home or a period design then you should consider wooden TV cabinets. Real wood cabinets can offer quality and elegance that will complement your home.  If you have a very modern home then there are a wide range of contemporary options available including glass, plastic and stainless steel designs.

  1. Take the Time to Shop Around

You may not be able to find the best TV cabinets for your budget and requirements in your local television stores.  Try looking online as well as there are many websites available offering a great range of TV cabinets.  Shopping around also gives you the chance to compare prices.  You may see a cabinet you like in store that you can actually get much cheaper online.

How to Incorporate a New TV Stand into Your Room Design

One of the problems of modern television equipment is that it is bulky and takes up a lot of room.  You can contain and display this equipment more effectively by buying an appropriate TV stand.  However it can be difficult to ensure this equipment does not intrude on your living spaces.

Coordinating Living Spaces

You will most likely spend a lot of your time in the same room in which your television equipment is set up. It is important that these spaces are comfortable and welcoming so that you can relax in your spare time.

You can help to create more sense of space and comfort by choosing the right TV stand for your room style.  There are plenty of options available of the market in terms of TV stand design.  This should mean you will be able to find the right TV stand to coordinate with your living spaces. Here are just a few suggestions to help you buy the right TV stand.

Wooden TV Cabinets

Modern wooden TV cabinets provide a good balance between display and storage.  You will be able to set up your flat screen TV on top of the cabinet and then store away additional devices and accessories inside the cupboard areas.  Wooden TV cabinets can be made of both real wood and laminate:

  • Real Wood – this type of TV stand can be an effective way to soften the impact of your modern television equipment in a more traditional style room.  You can buy a wide range of designs from conventional style wooden cabinets through to very modern open shelf designs.  Real wood furniture can add a touch of luxury to any room and will also be effective at storing and displaying television equipment.
  • Laminate Wood – these TV stands are available in several popular real wood effects such as maple, beech and oak. They offer a more affordable way to store and display your television equipment and will suit modern homes well.

Glass TV Stands

Glass TV stands are available from most television and furniture suppliers.  This is a popular option as glass is a modern material that looks good and is very durable. You can buy a wide range of glass TV stand designs including:

  • Ultra-modern black glass stands – if you have state-of-the-art home entertainment equipment then you can show it off with the latest black glass TV stands.  These look amazing in a modern style home and create a very stylish centrepiece to your living spaces.
  • Clear Glass – if you want your television equipment to fit more subtly into your rooms then you can choose the more conventional clear glass TV stands.  These are available in some attractive open shelf designs that save a lot of floor space by stacking your equipment safely.

Modern TV Stands for your Home

In many homes today the television and its associated equipment are usually displayed in the most prominent place in the room and as such it is important that your TV Stand is not only functional but aesthetically pleasing. There are a number of modern TV Stands available that look great in any contemporary home as well as more traditional designs if thats the way your rooms are furnished.

Brand Name Designs
Most of the big name television manufacturers also make TV stands so you can find a wide range of different brand name options such as Phillips, Sony, Panasonic and LG. Brand name TV stands do offer good quality designs and materials but they will be at the top of most people’s budget. You can also get some very good TV stands made by other manufacturers such as Alphason TV Stands or BDI and these offer a wide range of choices at affordable prices.

Materials
Modern TV stands are typically made from glass, plastic, wood and metal. These materials offer good value for money and are available in a wide range of different designs. Glass TV stands are very popular for modern homes as they provide a cost effective and durable option. These TV stands are made from toughened safety glass and can support the weight of your television equipment with ease. Plastic and metal TV stands are also popular in the home and provide long lasting options in a range of different styles. If you have a more traditional home design then wood TV stands can be a good option and you can choose from a number of different finishes.

Stand Designs
Modern TV stands come if a range of designs from TV cabinets through to table top stands. You will need to think about the space you have available and how you would like to display your TV equipment when you are choosing a stand. If you have the latest cutting edge flat screen television then you can compliment this with a contemporary TV stand such as one made from black glass. If you would prefer to keep your television equipment neatly hidden away then a wood TV cabinet can be a good idea as you will be able to shut the doors on all the devices and cables when not in use. For those rooms that have very little floor space then a wall mounted TV stand can be a practical way to display a large flat screen monitor.

TV Trolleys – The Streamlined Way to Display your TV

If you are looking for a streamlined way to display your flat screen lcd/led or plasma TV, or you are looking for something to be used in a corporate, business or training environment why not consider having a TV Trolley or TV Floor Stand.

Both these products are ultra minimal and stylish as well as being highly practical for a multitude of environments, they are designed to be strong and display the TV at maximum viewing positions that make them well suited for training, advertising and a host of other uses, and in some cases they can even display the TV in a horizontal or vertical position. They can be made available with shelves to support a minimal amount of equipment and these are generally supplied as optional extras, in either steel providing for the rugged and durable or glass versions for a slightly more stylish finish.

There are a few important aspects to consider when looking at TV Trolleys and TV Floor Stands, not least of which is the size and weight of the TV it is going to be supporting, bear in mind that because of the general design of these items make sure that you take notice of the dimensions of the supporting base. Because of the height and weight that these types of TV Stand are being asked to support, these bases can tend to be on the large size so that they can provide the balance and support that is necessary to hold your TV in a safe and practical manner.

Decide whether you want to have the TV on a fixed Floor Stand or a mobile TV Trolley, in some cases such as the EB60/72 models available from Premier Mounts this can be provided in either version and the castors can even be added at a later date as an optional extra. Once again check the measurements of the base to ensure that this will fit through your doorways etc;. If your organisation needs to have several TV Trolley’s then take a look at the Premier Mounts BW range that allow the TV Trolleys to be nested to save on storage space.

Nearly all of the TV Trolley and TV Floor Stand models that we provide come with a universal mounting bracket that is similar to the bracket used for wall mounting flat panel TV ‘s and as such will cover most TV sets available on the market today (although some only provide certain VESA services). With this in mind it is always important to make sure that the TV Stand or TV Trolley you are looking to purchase has the available fitting to suit the VESA Specification of the TV.

Ultimately, if there’s something out there that you like the look of and are interested in, have a look and see if you can get it in the right size for your TV. With this in mind, it’s easy to decide if your TV will look good on a minimalist stand or whether you need something a bit sturdier.

Understanding Materials Used for Wooden TV Stands

Wooden TV stands are highly functional and aesthetically pleasing.  There are a vast range of designs to choose from when it comes to wooden TV stands.  This will give you plenty of options when finding the perfect TV stand for your living spaces.

The costs of wooden TV stands can vary.  It is important to know what you are looking for so that you get the best deal.  Real wood TV stands can be expensive but they do provide a natural warmth and elegance to rooms.  There are many different materials used to make TV stands.  To help you understand what you are looking for here is a brief guide to the materials used for wooden TV stands.

Basswood

This is a common hardwood with a straight and even grain that makes it ideal for furniture manufacturing.  Basswood is strong and durable and is often used in combination with more expensive woods such as walnut and mahogany to create attractive and affordable furniture.  Basswood is ideal for making wooden TV stands as it is widely available, durable and inexpensive.  The colour varies from pale cream through to dark reddish brown.

Beech

This is a popular hardwood that is often used in furniture.  Beech is dense but also very flexible and is commonly used for making cabinets.  It is often stained to look like more expensive woods such as cherry and mahogany.  Many of the more affordable wooden TV stands are made from beech.

Birch

This is one of the most common hardwoods used in furniture production.  Birch has a light golden grain which is attractive and very similar to the more expensive maple wood.  The close grain provides strength and flexibility. Birch is slightly more expensive than beech and basswood.

Cherry

This is one of the most valued hardwoods and is expensive.  Cherry has a distinctive and very attractive finish with a fine colour that ranges from light golden brown through to deep reddish brown.  Cherry is close grained which makes it suitable for fine decorative work.  As this is expensive it is not commonly used for wooden TV stands.  However if you have other cherry wood furniture in your room you could consider paying a bit more and getting a cherry wood stand custom built.

Elm

Elm is a very flexible hardwood that is ideal for making furniture.  The grain is straight and even and ranges from light through to dark brown.  However Dutch Elm disease has destroyed many trees and so this has become one of the rarer woods.  This means it is harder to find and much more expensive than it once was.

Hickory

This is one of the toughest of the hardwoods and is renowned for its strength and durability.  Hickory is commonly used in furniture such as chairs, tables and cabinets.  The wood is heavy and hard to work which can make it more expensive than other wooden TV stands.  The wood has a straight grain and the colour varies from brown to deep reddish brown.
